Why wont the U.S drill its own oil and/or build more refineries? I mean gas prices are getting well out of hand. And the sad part is they are expected by summers end to be up to 5.00 a gallon.
I have my wife, daughter and myself. Because of everything going up I tried to apply for food stamps but the gross (not net) income in my state for a family of 3 is under 1900!!! And I am cutting cable and internet which I dont pay because I really cant afford it. My wife is looking for part time work but hasnt heard anything yet and my dad offered to babysit while she works so we dont have to worry about that cost. I have gone exempt on federal taxes and had to cash in my petty 1,000 retirement for help. And now I may have to cut health insurance and pray I can get all kids which is a state funded insurance in AL for lower income families. Times are hard and getting worse and I am a nervous wreck wondering what to do each day.
It is true that expanding domestic oil drilling has been stopped by the Democratic majority in Congress because of environmental concerns. However, there are still several bills in the current session of Congress that would open up lands to oil drilling. Call your Congressman and ask them to cosponsor H.R. 3089, the No More Excuses Energy Act. H.R. 3089 would reduce our Nation’s fuel costs by encouraging responsible domestic energy production in the United States. Specifically, H.R. 3089 would: encourage new refinery construction: reduce green house emissions by offering a tax credit for CO2 captured for use in marginal oil wells: boost alternative energy development by extending the Wind Production Tax Credit for 10 years: lift the congressional moratoria on drilling in the Outer Continental Shelf, potentially providing 17 billion barrels of oil: open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to responsible drilling, potentially producing nearly a million barrels per day for several decades: and encourage investment in a much-needed industrial base for building new nuclear power plants by reducing the tax burden on that industry.
UGH!! Gas prices are about SUPPLY AND DEMAND!! THAT’S why ":the price goes up every April, goes down every August, back up a little at Thanksgiving and Christmas …": Because when people DEMAND more, and SUPPLY is low (because the greenies haven’t let us drill our own oil for decades!!), the price goes up! People drive a lot more in summer and around the holidays. AND the gas companies are NOT gouging!! YES, they are making ":record profits,": BUT THAT’S BECAUSE THEY’RE SELLING RECORD AMOUNTS OF GAS!!!! They are making the SAME AMOUNT per gallon as before. If you want to know who’s gouging – LOOK AT THE GOVERNMENT WHO IS STEALING MORE IN TAXES THAN THE OIL COMPANIES MAKE, REGARDLESS OF THE FACT THAT THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING!! Why can’t people get this through their heads?!! Why oh why oh why??!!!!! Good Lord! AND WHY AREN’T YOU ANGRY ABOUT THE FACT THAT EVERYTHING ELSE HAS GONE UP IN PRICE, ALSO?! Huh? WHY?!! I’ll tell you why — it’s because the media only focuses on gas prices! If they focused on the rising cost of bottled water (which, like gas, is also rising), people would be barking about that! So why don’t I hear anyone say anything good when the price comes down a little? Hmmm? God help me, I am soooooo sick of hearing people whine about gas prices!! But then, you can’t go by me, ’cause I’m sick of hearing people bark and whine about EVERY LITTLE THING THESE DAYS!! You’ve got it pretty G.D. good in this country, dude!! Pretty good! Freedom, opportunity out the @ss, even the poor households in the U.S. are better off than the poor in most other countries! How about you try to appreciate what you have! Help meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!
You should be very concerned, oil and gas affects everything. It’s not just the fuel we put in our cars, it’s all the products we use. If it’s not made from oil (plastics) it is brought by trucks.
We need to be louder than the environmentalists, email, call or write your Congress. My bet would be that groups like Green Peace and WWF and others are being funded by OPEC.
It is not the fault of oil companies, they have some of the lowest percentage for profits about 8.2%. The media are touting record profits only because they are a world wide company and sell so much oil. Coke or Microsoft has double the profits. Also there is not a small group of people getting rich, it’s the average American that profits when they do. They are held by almost everyone who has a retirement fund.
We don’t have a shortage. Oil being a commodity is being played out in the stock market which no one country or government controls. As for creating a new drilling area the tree huggers which I am by the way have a fit anywhere they try to go. We’re all feeling it but we all have to do what we have to do. I drive a small gas saving car and walk alot. I’ll only mow once a week, and whatever else it takes. Good luck to you tho cause it’s hard when you have a family.
I KEEP HEARING THAT THE GOVERNMENT SUED OPEC OVER THE PRICES. I KEEP HEARING IF EVERYONE WOULD CUT THEIR GAS USAGE THAT IT COULD MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE. BUT WHEN I GO FILL UP MY GAS TANK WHICH IS 75 NOW AND LESS THAN 6 MONTH AGO WAS ABOUT 52, I HAVE TO WAIT ABOUT 5-7 MINUTES TO GET TO THE PUMP. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN JUST THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS. SO THE GAS PEOPLE ARE GETTING RICHER AND THE PEOPLE IN THE US THAT HAVE OIL ARE GOING TO WAIT TO SEE HOW HIGH GAS PRICES GO BEFORE THE SELL THEIR OIL FOR THE HIGHEST PRICE EVER. ALL WE CAN DO IS PRAY AND TRY TO CONSERVE. I AM A SINGLE MOTHER OF 2 GIRLS AND EVERYTHING IS GOING UP BUT THE PAY. I MAY HAVE TO GET A SECOND JOB TO PAY FOR THE GAS TO GET TO WORK.
Unfortunately gas prices are not regulated by the government. Liberals in US government have been fighting domestic drilling for 30 years. Oil companies are in business for profit so they can charge whatever the market will bear for a gallon of gas. In other words if we keep buying they will keep raising the price.
The liberals wont let us. They area afraid that an elk might stub its hoof on a pipline. Besides even if we drill it will be more than 10 years before that oil even gets to our pumps.
I feel your pain, and I fear things will continue to get worse.
Part of the problem (besides our bad relations with other countries upon which we have become dependent) is the global warming myth. Check this out:
Its because some insane liberals wont allow drilling because of wild cows
I’m curious as to how active you were in trying to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels 8 years ago.
